Bad Beauty Habits and How to Fix Them

It’s easy to get into a routine with your beauty routine but it’s important to reassess things from time to time to make sure that you haven’t fallen into any bad habits. If you are guilty of any of these beauty blunders, it’s time to change your ways!

Not Moisturizing Oily Skin

If you have oily skin, it might seem counterintuitive to add more moisture but it shouldn’t be! Washing your face strips away the natural oil and your body will go into overdrive to produce more. This can result in oily skin. You can actually prevent this by replenishing the oils with a good moisturizer. Find a good moisturizing designed for oily skin and use it after every wash.

Brushing After Meals

Dental hygiene is an important part of any beauty routine. There is nothing that will dull down your look faster than yellow teeth but make sure you are taking care of your pearly whites in the right way. Brushing your teeth after meals, especially if you’ve eaten something acidic, will wear away at the enamel, cause a transparent look, and actually increase your odds for cavities. After you have fruit, wine, or soda, be sure to wait at least 30 minutes before brushing. If you are craving that fresh, just-brushed feeling, chew on some gum in the meantime.

Getting an Artificial Shine

Most hair products that advertise ultra shiny locks contain silicone. This coats your hair rather than being absorbed by it and that coating can resulted in weighed down hair. This builds up over time and actually dulls down your hair’s natural shine. Your hair creates its own oils so if it’s looking dull, try to spread out the time between washings. Look for silicone and sulfate free products that will allow your natural glow to shine through.

Washing Your Face in the Morning

Washing your face twice a day can strip away the natural oils and lead to breakouts, dry skin, or any other number of problems. It is important to wash at night so have that be your one washing per day. Sleeping in makeup will never do you any favors so use a good makeup remover and follow up with a face wash at night. Your skin will build up oils overnight but that’s a good thing! It’s perfectly fine to rinse your face in the morning but stay away from any cleansers.

Not Using Protection

You probably already know that heat styling your hair is one of the most damaging things that you can do it. You don’t have to toss away your blowdryer and straight iron though! A little heat protection can go a long way. Spray on a quick coat and comb it through your strands to minimize damage. Also be sure to invest in good quality tools that will also you dry and style under 400 degrees.

Using Brushes without Washing

Washing your makeup brushes is so important! Using dirty brushes can cause the shades to blend together and become less vibrant while also increase your risk of breakouts and skin infections. Plan just a couple of minutes every week to wash your brushes and leave them out to dry overnight. There are great brush cleansers out there or you can just use a simple baby shampoo.
