How can you be great?

As a high school student it is hard to figure out who you are as a person and who you are meant to be when you grow up. It is not something that anyone expects you to know when you graduate high school or even college. There are a lot of really important years ahead of you that you will learn a lot about yourself and the world around you. Ultimately, you want to be great and the greatest version of yourself.

To be great, you must be constantly willing to learn. Learning about yourself, learning about the world around you and learning about the areas in which your passions lie. By learning as much as you can now and continuing to develop yourself long after your formal education and schooling ends, you will bring so much to the people around you. Offering sound advice and input when they reach out to you and becoming a valuable asset to your company once you are employed.
Another way to be great is always remember to be yourself and not fall into the traps that peer pressure pushes you into. There are going to be people in your life that try to get you to do things that you are uncomfortable with. It is inevitable that that will happen but the best thing you can do is to accept the situations and those people for what they are but stay true to yourself and what your beliefs are. It is much easier to live knowing that you made a decision because it was one that you wanted to make – not a decision that someone else made for you.
Along those lines, another way to be great is to accept that you are not perfect. Not a single person is perfect, no matter what some people try to make you believe. Embrace your imperfections because that is what makes you who you are. Embrace the mistakes that you make because that is going to make you smarter and prepare you to make better decisions down the line. You have to learn to laugh at yourself – life is way too short to be too hard on yourself.
In case you didn’t catch the trend – the way to be great is to be yourself. Every single, glorious quirk and weird thing about you is exactly what makes you great. Embrace it.
