How to Balance a Healthy Relationship in College

Balancing a full-time schedule in college is hard enough on its own. Most people have a part-time or even a full-time job as well, as long as friendships they have to maintain; throw in a romantic relationship, and you are booked! It may seem nearly impossible to balance all of these things and have a healthy and thriving romantic relationship with someone, but it is not impossible. It may be hard, but all it requires is a little time and effort.

Be sure to plan out time each week that you can be together, without doing homework or focusing on other tasks you have to complete that week. A great way to do this is to compare schedules and mark down a day and time that works best for the two of you in your planner. Have the mindset that the date you set with your significant other is of the same priority as your Biology exam, because if you want a healthy relationship, it is as important as that exam!

Although spending time together should be a priority, it is also important to be understanding with each other. If you set a date to spend time together, but one of you has a test to study for or has to work late that night, understand that sometimes plans do fall through. The important thing is to not let this become a habit.

Another way to have a healthy relationship while in college is to support one another. If your partner is stressing out over a test or a course he or she is taking, be there to offer your support, even if it is just a hug or simply your company. Supporting and caring for each other is what a relationship is all about anyway!
