My tips for students wanting to break into the Makeup Artistry profession starts with asking yourself this important question. "Is this my true PASSION?" Because whether you're thinking about owning your own business or working for one of the many amazing companies/brands out there you're going to have your hands full with this career choice. Once you've confirmed that makeup is your passion, you're ready to dive in and let the fun begin! Makeup school is an absolute must as you will learn not only PRO tips and tricks; but you will also build connections in the beauty industry that are vital for a career in this field. (I personally went to MUD (Make-up Designory in Burbank, CA) and AIPCT (American Institute of Permanent Color Technology in Tustin, CA) and highly recommend both.) Take EVERY opportunity you get to do makeup. Which will mean a lot of freebies and personal time; but by doing so you will start to build your own personal clientele which is also essential. My tips thus far run true for Makeup Artistry ranging from Beauty (Print/Film/TV/Counter/Bridal), Fashion (Runway/Costume/Counter/Bridal), Permanent Makeup and SFX/FX (Special Effects/Prosthetic Makeup/Costume). My personal experience includes all of these fields; but my primary focus is in Beauty, Fashion and Permanent Makeup. I also Freelance for M.A.C Cosmetics and can offer tips for this career choice as well. No matter what your makeup questions might be, I'll be able to offer you a wealth of knowledge from my thirteen+ years as a professional in this wonderful business. Even if you're still not sure if this is the right career path for you, I can help assist you in figuring out that as well. I'm happy to answer all of your questions. All you have to do is ask.
