My name is Gabriela Rodriguez, I am a senior at University High School and enjoy being involved in a variety of activities. Going to be a college freshman in Fall 2015!
Going to college is something that sounds a bit scary, don’t you think? I am still young and as many, I only have a reference of who I am at this point due to everything I have experienced up to present day. Although a couple of things that I have learned have been how mature, respectful and responsible one must be and more opportunities will arise. One should not be the type of person to settle for what they can have but one should go out and reach for what he/ she wants, always being compassionate and conscientious of those around them. For good manners, respect, and determination towards each individual, no matter where they come from, will open many doors for a person.
Being in college requires one to takes actions for him or her self and sometimes that means stepping out of the comfort zone. Many are taught to not be a conformist and reach out for goals and dreams regardless of public opinion, because in the end what one does is for one self. Keeping this is mind, in college one must be very self- motivated and determined to be successful in order to focus through all four years in college and acquire a better lifestyle after.
Now, taking on challenges and risks is something one must learn to do. By doing so, one can gain resources and make connections to help accomplish goals and always do the best to take a lesson or idea from everything one does, so that it can all be incorporated it into life or experiences to come.
Something that can help stay focused in college, is figuring out exactly what one wants to get out of life at that point. One must know who he or she wants to become and find a way to figure out what it takes to get there. By doing so it will help become very social and outgoing and serves as a push to obtain more knowledge, so that one can assert him or her self with people who are pursuing similar objectives in life. Finding guidance in people whom they encounter along the way and become well rounded with all subjects and topics to be able to keep up in conversation with those who know more than they do.
Overall, the one thing that should be implied into one’s lifestyle is being humble. Things will fall into place at their due time, there are so many people in college, everyone has something to offer and bring to the table, hence there is no reason to boast about what you have and can do. Actions speak louder than words, so show, don’t tell and wait and see what the future has in store. College surely does sound scary, but it is probably the place where one truly finds who he or she is, due to the amount of responsibility and decisions taken. Who knows, they can be the best four years of one’s life; so make them count!
