Making your Curls Last

As girls, we all know how hard it can be to make your curls last the entire day. When you are in college, it can be hard to even find the time to try and figure out a way to make them last longer than a few hours. However, there are a few easy steps you can take to keep your hair curly and wavy all day long.

1. Day Old: Don’t try to curl your hair that has been freshly washed. The natural oils that are found in your hair actually give your hair the perfect texture for curls and helps you mold your hair easier. If you feel like your hair is a bit too dirty or oily, apply some dry shampoo or baby powder to your roots.

2. Do Not Deep Condition: Using a deep conditioner, or too many hair products at that, can put extra weight on your hair and cause it to be weighed down. If you know you are going to curl your hair, go ahead and skip the deep conditioner so that your hair will be full and moldable.

3. What Products to Use: So many people will curl their hair and then pile on a ton of products, which actually contradicts the look you were going for in the first place by curling your hair. A lot of products will make your hair crunchy and stiff. Begin by using a lotion made for styling to add texture to your hair. Also, apply a heat protector so you do not damage and fry your hair with the curling iron. Use just enough hairspray after curling so that it isn’t stiff or sticky. Pick a lightweight hairspray.

Braids: This simple trick can take you a long way. Simply braid your hair before you go to sleep and sleep on the braids. This will create a natural curl to your hair if you have naturally straight hair. Even if your hair is naturally curly, this can add some extra curls to work with.
