My name is Olivia Martinotti, but everyone calls me Libby. I grew up in a small town in Connecticut, and currently reside in Los Angeles, California. My story is interesting and still being written, but I’ll start at college. I went to Keene State College in New Hampshire, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a minor in Philosophy with an existentialist focus. After I graduated (in 2013), I worked in the mental health industry, full time, and applied for graduate schools to work toward my doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology. I got in! I was really happy, but somewhere along my journey I became really unhappy with my profession, and where my life was headed, so I decided to make a change. I applied to the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles and when I got in, I saw my life fall into place
I started a personal blog, perfected my Instagram and dedicated my life to fashion and have been loving it since. I drove to LA with my dad a little over 4 months ago, and it was the best decision I have made. LA is amazing, I love it, there’s inspiration around every corner, and everyone strives to be different. I’m not currently working, but I intern and I’m happy, SO happy.
Fashion in LA is definitely unique, nobody’s afraid to wear platform shoes, or walk around with 3 different colors in their hair, or twelve facial piercings. It’s understood that being different and standing out will make an impression, and in order to make connections and in turn get a job, it’s important to be remembered. That’s not to say appearance is all that matters, because it most definitely is not, staying grounded and kind, but strong and focused is very important, but if you are kind, funny, outgoing and have pink hair (like me) it tends to stick in someone’s brain a little bit better
I’m unique in that I find inspiration in everything. A while back I stopped looking for the acceptance of other people and started working on myself and have learned a lot. My personal style has grown and gotten A LOT better (a personal opinion, feel free to have your own). I like to wear things that are different, and I wear a lot of black. I don’t typically layer my clothes or wear a lot of jewelry, so I guess that makes me a minimalist (or just lazy ;)). Along with 95% of the population I ask myself on the daily WWKJD? (what would Kylie Jenner do)? And follow the Instagrams of Chiara Ferragni (Fashion Blogger) and Perrie Edwards (member of the girl band Little Mix) who’s closets I would die for.
I have a few staple pieces I wear and re-wear, like my levi jeans (a bargain buy from Salvation Army that I destroyed myself), my flannels, leather skirt, chunky boots and then my signature pink hair (which I can’t really get rid of).
I hope every body liked my first post, and you’ll hear from me soon
