My personal fashion style is classic yet comfortable. While my closest is eclectic, containing everything from sequins to flannel, I tend to have favorite pieces that I wear on a regular basis. I like to stick to a more timeless look, but I do like to branch out to try new trends from time to time. My idea of a perfect outfit would be a simple little black dress, a pair of heels, and drop earrings.
Black is an absolute staple for my wardrobe, but my style is very much based off of my mood for the day. Some days I love wearing bright colors and large patterns whereas others I opt for a solid dark silk blouse and jeans. For days when I’m looking to stand out, I love wearing Lily Pulitzer. While I don’t usually buy clothes based on the designer, the vibrant patterns and colors of their clothing suit my personality and more casual style.
Comfort is essential for my weekday style; I save my heels for the weekend! I’m always running around, so I need both my clothes and footwear to be cute, but relaxed. Boots, flats and gladiator sandals (weather dependent of course) are my go-to choice for footwear Monday through Friday. Weeknights and weekends are when I break out the high heels and leather boots, and my style becomes a less casual and a little trendier. A sequin top with jeans and a leather jacket is a common outfit for me on Friday and Saturday nights. But during the workweek, you will always find me with a sweater, no matter what the outfit or weather. In the summer, I like to pair a cardigan with a bright summer dress and flats. But when the weather gets colder, I trade my light cardigan for a chunky oversized sweater, leggings, and a pair of boots.
My style is largely based off of my belief that it is essential for each girl to dress for her body type, not the latest trends. It’s important to remember that not every trend will work for you. A perfect example of this would be the maxi dress trend. I love maxi dresses but as someone who is on the shorter side with broad shoulders, that type of dress does not flatter my shape. While I can appreciate the latest fashion trends, many don’t suit my personal style or body type.
When Coco Chanel said “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take off one [accessory],” she clearly hadn’t met me. I tend to accessorize with footwear, handbags, and scarves rather than jewelry. I rarely wear bracelets, necklaces, or belts. My earrings are usually a simple diamond stud or a small pearl. If I do decide to jazz up an outfit with jewelry, it is usually with drop earrings and some small bangles. On rare occasions, I will throw on a belt if I feel like the outfit is missing something.
While I wouldn’t classify myself as someone who is trendy, I do believe it’s important to look good and be comfortable while doing it. My style is ever changing and developing, today I’m wearing jeans, an oversized turtleneck sweater, and black high heeled booties, but tomorrow, who knows!
