Summertime Smoothie Love

One of my favorite things about summer is all of the fresh fruit that becomes available. And one of my favorite things to do to with all of the amazing fresh fruit that is available is make a delicious smoothie every morning. Smoothies are good for you, filling and full of nutrients and vitamins that help make your skin glow. And by making them at home I save myself about $7 by skipping my morning trip to the smoothie shop. I recently read that by adding a handful of fresh spinach to your smoothie you could really up the nutrition value. At first, I was a skeptical. I usually like my spinach in a salad with some dressing on the side. But being a sucker for anything that’s supposed to help me be healthier, I decided to give it a go.
On my most recent trip to the farmers market I stocked up on fresh blueberries, strawberries and baby spinach. Then I went to the grocery store and got some frozen fruit (pineapple and raspberries) and plain non-fat Greek yogurt. The frozen fruit makes the smoothie nice and cold and the yogurt gives it an added punch of protein. I put everything into the blender and let it get nice and smooth. I have to admit, I was surprised by how delicious it turned out. Even better, it kept me full through my morning run up until lunch time. There was a definite green tint to the smoothie from the spinach, but other than that I could hardly even tell that there was spinach in it. My final verdict is that this easy recipe is a keeper. I plan to keep making them every morning instead of my go-to bagel and cream cheese. I think my bikini body will thank me.
