Experimenting with makeup can be a lot of fun. There are a dizzying array of options out there and you are always walking around with a blank canvas. If you want to stay experimental but avoid becoming a walking don’t, follow these tips.
Major Makeup Mishap: Dark Lipstick
Statement lipstick is great for adding a touch of drama to you look but be careful! Just like dark clothes are slimming, dark lipsticks make your lips look thinner. If you want something bold, go in the direction of bright, standout lip shades. They are far more forgiving and user friendly. If you have been blessed with plump puckers, go dark if you really want but consider going for dark glosses rather than matter lipsticks which will show any imperfections or lines.
Major Makeup Mishap: Overplucked Eyebrows
It is easy to get too enthusiastic when you have got the tweezers in your hands but it is far better to err on the side of too much eyebrow hair. It really can be worth a one-time visit to a professional even if you like doing your own eyebrows at home. Let them grow out for awhile then see an eyebrow pro who can point you in the right direction. Once you have a good shape established, upkeep is incredibly easy. Get a consultation to help you find the right shade of eyebrow pencil or powder for your skin tone and hair color then try to match it on your own. It is really not expensive and is well, well worth it.
Major Makeup Mishap: Mismatched Foundation
MAtching foundation to your skin tone is particularly tricky. The shade that works for you in the winter will probably not match as well in the summer. There are a couple of things that you can do to deal with this. Most women really don’t need a full face of foundation. Try a tinted moisturizer then use a concealer as needed. Blend it all together with a powder to create fuller coverage. If you really like a full face of foundation, buy a couple of different shades. Foundation is good for a year or longer so buy your light and darker shade and blend them as needed. You can also use them to do light foolproof contouring.
Major Makeup Mishap: Messy Mascara
If your mascara is getting flakey, it is time to toss it. If you are having trouble getting your mascara to stay on your lashes all day (and off your face), switch to waterproof. Waterproof is great during warmer months or if you just have a habit of rubbing your eyes.
Major Makeup Mishap: Too Much Contouring
Bronzers and highlighters are great but only in moderation. If you really love contouring, your first step is to make sure that you have the right products. Shimmery bronzers aren’t meant for contouring. They can be great for add a touch of color to your cheeks but generally you need a matte powder to do good contouring. If you want to use an illuminator or highlight just work in moderation. You can use a touch on your cheeks and at the corners of your eyes but leave it at that. In this case, less is definitely more.
