As a securities trader or stock trader, you will learn that this is a very fast-paced environment that involves the quick purchasing and selling of stocks and other securities. While this job can be one that is very fulfilling and rewarding, it can also be extremely stressful as well. Many securities trading positions are commission based and can be very stressful if things do not turn out as planned. • You can advance very quickly in your career. If you prove yourself capable, after five years of related work experience you can find yourself being a financial manager. This advancement is fairly quick compared to other careers. Of course being a financial manager does come with its own set of pros and cons but you will have a potential of earning a higher based salary and live a more comfortable life.
• You can take what you learn at your job and apply it your personal net worth. You can take what you learned from working and see how you can apply it and make your own personal net worth increase. Of course you should never do anything illegal or jeopardize your career but useful little tidbits can help you improve your living. It would be the same as using your expertise to help your clients, instead you would use it help yourself for no cost.
• You will receive constant training. Because there are so new services and products coming out, it’s always important to stay current. Most employers will provide their employees the training they need to stay modern and keep up with the evolution and progression of the stock market.
• Commission based jobs can be very stressful. Depending on which employer you work for, your salary can be commission based. This means that your pay will be dependent on your performance. If you happen to have a bad streak of investments, you will find yourself only earning your minimum salary and very stressed about your performance. This job can also be generally stressful because you will be dealing with large sums of money and can feel responsible if you make the wrong decisions.
• Your schedule may be very hectic. While the stock market is only open a certain amount of hours, it doesn’t mean that your work stops once the market closes. Certain changes can happen overnight and shift your once ideal investment into a horrible mistake. There are times when securities traders will work many shifts including the evenings and weekends.
• Your location may not be ideal. While there is such thing as e-trading, it may not be what you want to do. Most securities trading positions are found in very populated metropolitan areas such as Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles. You may not have the best opportunities if you lived in another area and may have to relocate for better job prospects.
