Work Hard, Play Hard

College gives you more freedom than you’ve ever had before in your life. You go from the ridged schedule of high school and the responsibilities to your family, to complete and total freedom. You don’t technically have to be anywhere. However, a lot of people can mess up that newfound freedom by crashing and burning and failing out of college. Don’t be one of those people. Learn to balance your life, that is after all, one of the major lessons of college.

Work Hard

When you start college, you better be working harder than you ever have in your life. The tuition is stupid expensive, so you need to get every last drop out of college that you can. That means taking your courses seriously and even if you don’t have to be there, making sure that you don’t ditch more than two classes per class. If that strict rule makes you snicker because you think you can come and go as you please, do some simple calculations and find out how much you personally pay per class. Is it around $50, $80 or even more? Not so easy anymore to miss so much class, now is it.

Your assignments from class might not be that interesting and might be a total drag, but just do them. The professor isn’t stupid and you were given the assignment because you should really learn something from it. Again, going back to how expensive college is, it makes sense to put your 100% into every assignment so you get the most out of it.

Working hard isn’t just about class, it’s about building your resume for the real world. When in college you might need to earn money, so be smart and take a job that you can apply to what you are learning in class. It will deepen your learning experience while putting money in your pocket and buffing up your resume.

Play Hard

Yes, college is in fact fun. It’s great being around thousands of people who are around your age. There are parties all the time. Half the experience of college is going to these parties and meeting new people. There are also great clubs to join to blow off steam and take your stress down a few notches.

Part of playing hard is the dating scene. Don’t forget to give yourself the freedom to go out on dates with interesting guys who maybe you might not have tried in high school. These men might show you a new, fun, exciting part of life.

Overall, stay open to all invitations that come your way. You will then have the opportunity to get some really amazing life experiences that you will look back on fondly for the rest of your life.
